General FAQs

What do you mean by organic kibble?

Compared to beef, chicken, or salmon-based kibbles, insect flour allows us to significantly reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing our kibbles, which requires much less water and agricultural land, and emits less CO2. This is why we are proud to be able to describe them as ecological, as insect proteins are real alternatives.

Does Tomojo kibble have the same nutritional properties as traditional kibble?

Insects are part of the animal kingdom, unlike other concentrated protein sources such as beef, chicken, or fish. They remain excellent sources of essential amino acids, much richer than plants. As such, they are a perfect fit for balanced diets for carnivores. Tomojo recipes, formulated by a nutritionist specializing in the digestive balance of dogs and cats, perfectly respect the nutritional balance required for a long, healthy life.

Are Tomojo recipes approved by a specialist?

Our recipes are developed with a nutritionist specializing in animal nutrition. They are tested and analyzed to ensure they meet all the nutritional needs of dogs and cats.

Are there any preservatives in Tomojo kibble?

We do not add chemical preservatives to our Tomojo recipes, however some of our raw materials such as vitamins or oils are preserved from oxidation by preservatives that comply with regulations, as is also the case for organic products. Please note: essential fatty acids, omega 3 and omega 6 for example, are subject to natural oxidation, not protecting them from this phenomenon could be harmful to the body. The only preservatives that can be found in our recipes are antioxidants from our ingredients, mostly of natural origin and always in moderate quantities.

Is Tomojo kibble certified organic?

Because the insect industry is relatively new, organic certification does not yet exist. We remain particularly active and committed to promoting the most rational and environmentally friendly farming methods. We invite you to discover what goes on behind the scenes by clicking here .

What does “grain-free” kibble mean?

“Grain-free” simply means that the carbohydrates are provided by ingredients like potatoes and legumes like peas and lentils, instead of grains like wheat and rice, which are more slowly absorbed.
Grains are sometimes poorly tolerated by animals and can even cause allergies or intolerances . Our kibble is therefore suitable for dogs with intolerances or those sensitive to allergies. We'll tell you more right here !

Where and how are Tomojo kibbles produced?

Our kibble is made in France, in our partner factory in Mayenne, under the supervision of veterinarians. The factory meets our quality standards. The kibble is manufactured using the extrusion process.

Why are there insects in Tomojo kibble?

Insects are one of the best alternative proteins to traditional meat. Not only do they offer excellent nutritional quality, but their production also wastes much less of our precious natural resources such as water and natural spaces. Finally, they emit far fewer greenhouse gases and require no pesticides or synthetic molecules.

What type of insects are found in Tomojo kibble?

The insect flour used in Tomojo kibble is made from fly larvae of the Hermetia Illucens species, raised on specialized farms and fed a unique blend from local sources that utilizes human waste (grain, fruit and vegetable scraps).
We also use Tenebrio Molitor flour in our dog treats, which are also made in France, more precisely in Castres!

Do you use whole insects?

We don't use whole insects, but insect flour. To obtain this raw material, insect larvae undergo several processing stages: drying, lipid separation by pressing, transformation into flour, and finally packaging.

Can insects feel pain?

This question is still being debated by the scientific community, but the results of experiments conducted so far tend to suggest that insects are incapable of feeling pain. In any case, we guarantee the well-being of the larvae throughout the production process.
